Can people call it ''soccer or is it just Americans who do that? I am not that into football but l cringe when people refer to it as ''soccer''.

Soccer was coined in 1889 by shortening the name ''Association Football''. Both words originate from Great Britain; most chose the word football, but since we have American Football, we chose soccer.

Well you can not do much about it if people call it soccer, can you, so l would not worry about it too much. It is not like it hurts you if someone calls it soccer, you just need to accept it and move on, its still the same game anyway!

soccer l believe is called ''soccer'' instead of it is real name ''football'' because in australia they tend to say football is either A.F.L. or N.R.L. or Rugby union.
they just use soccer so it is not confused

Just call it football, if Americans are confused that is their problem. At least you know what you're talking about and they will catch on eventually.
