Maradona says he was banned from voting Messi for Player of the Year! Seems there is a rule that forbids coaches from voting for someone that comes from their own country. What a load of crap! Cant we trust coaches to vote fairly and wisely??

valencianista: its a known rule yes but my question is is it a good rule or not. yes or no answer, no need to bring up man u or barca. and maradona did vote for ronaldo coz he couldnt vote messi but was that his honest choice? no, thats why l think the rule sucks. it stops people from expressing their choice. and anyway this ban how many votes does it affect anyway, maybe too few to matter in the final count..thanks for answering. at least l got 2now, it took hours lol.

l didnt know about that rule. it is not fair at all cuz a person should vote for the player he really thinks is the best but when they sre banned, they cant then! its cuz fifa thinks coaches wont be objective when they vote and it can be true, u know? but l really think maradona thinks messi is the best without bein subjective. but now if u ask about ronaldo, he got many pts cuz he is damn popular, messi is just a humble boy and he doesnt dive

coaches & captains r not allowed to vote for someone from their own country, that is a known rule.

but u can not only say this about Maradona, if he voted for Ronaldo u would not even bring this up, i'm not criticizing just trying to tell u that it does not matter because this award is about opinion, not true facts, if a player plays for Barcelona or Manchester United he is automatically nominated even if others accomplished more.

edit: yes & l did not mean to be disrespectful in any way, Messi is a great player but for example David Villa, why is not he even in the top 5??? he deserves it more than Torres, Kaka & even Messi (in terms of accomplishments) yet he is not there, if he played for Barcelona or Manchester United they would give him #1, the club plays a role.
